Horses are flight animals. Their instinct is to run first and ask questions later. This is survival 101 for horses in the wild, but can lead to myriad injuries in the environments imposed upon them by humans. A swift, competent response can preserve a horse’s life, alleviate suffering, aid the veterinarian’s efforts, and promote recovery.

I teach YOU what to do in an emergency involving your horse. My classes are fun, fast-paced, and hands-on! Youth classes are available.

Topics include:
• Injury prevention
• Pain detection
• How to take vital signs
• What is normal/abnormal in the horse
• Conditioning your horse for treatment
• Bandaging techniques for wounds
• Planning for remote wilderness conditions
• Assessing your horse for work
• Freeing a trapped horse
• Burns, bites, and poisonous plants
• Bleeding and foreign bodies
• Fractures and sucking chest wounds
• Colic, choke, casting, collapse, hoof health and disease, and more
